Flexible Hoses - Eng-Tips

Most of the time flexible hoses are modeled similar to an untied expansion joint. It should be mentioned effective ID should be neglected because the braid of the flexible hose withstands the pressure thrust of the internal bellows/rubber. Displacements should be checked carefully especially axial and torsional displacements because most flexible hoses especially metallic flexible hoses are susceptible to axial and torsional displacements. Check the displacement results with your vendor.
If you have any offsets in your system I think it cannot be modeled correctly in the software. I would say it depends on stiffness that the hose has. In case the hose diameters are small (what is small? You need to decide by considering flexibility of the hose) I would eliminate the hoses completely from the model since they have very little effect on the nozzle calculation.

In case the nozzle diameters are large which introduce stiffness in the system, and they introduce large vertical loads in addition to other loads on the thin shell so I suggest you to contact to the supplier and get all the required stiffness values and material properties, and model it. If you install it with a curvature you need to follow the curvature in the model by considering its material properties.
